A record event – the 10th VENUS in Berlin

Berlin (Germany), 26.10.2006

For months the organisers of Venus had been promising that the Venus Trade Fair 2006 would be an event to remember, with even more international exhibitors, trade visitors, surprises and highlights – and a party to mark the 10th anniversary. The numbers and voices of the exhibitors, trade visitors and consumers confirmed the forecast, and 2006 was indeed a record event.

So all the last doubters and non-participants can do now is look forward to the 11th Venus Berlin in 2007. With 8 exhibition halls and 28,000 m² of exhibition site, the Venus Trade Fair added yet another hall to accommodate the record number of 355 exhibitors from 32 countries and provide enough space for the new VENUS-WEB-AREA. The Venus Trade Fair also recorded a 10.5% increase in participating retailers on the previous year to 5597. With 20% more consumers, the 10th Venus with 24,500 fans of erotica experienced the biggest international trade fair ever.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors, partners, exhibitors, retailers and visitors for helping to make the 10th VENUS BERLIN such a success. This result was only possible because everyone was prepared to do their utmost to ensure it.

Success was evident from the beginning, and exhibitors and retailers alike were soon able to see the positive results. As in previous years, the organisation and excellent service on every aspect of the trade fair were much praised. Special praise was given for the "10 Years Anniversary Party" in the Hotel Estrel on the Friday evening. Never before had there been such a wonderful Venus Party with such an exciting and well-arranged programme to ensure that there was never a chance of boredom.

Many exhibitors spoke of the tremendous presence of international trade visitors, and were delighted to be able to made new business contacts, both national and international – a sure sign that international business opportunities are gradually growing together and that the Venus is now the pivotal point and linchpin for retail and industry. As a retail platform, the VENUS Trade Fair offers exhibitors and retailers national and international opportunities for handling competitive pressures in the future.

Once again, the exhibitors’ fantasy and creativity was reflected in the products on display. Not only was no effort spared in the design of the stands, but the exhibitors also revealed plenty of imagination for the presentation of the individual products. Often the stands with their colourful goods were like a department store of erotica, enticing the viewer along on a shopping spree. Visitors admired and happily bought the products on display, whether colourful "shapely" dildos, cheeky or seductive lingerie, shoes of all kinds and curios. Some exhibitors were completely overwhelmed by the onslaught and by Sunday happily announced that they had completely sold out of their stocks.

The Venus has always been an insider tip for non-branch insiders, and those who were in the industry weren’t going to miss it. It was to be an unforgettable evening for the 10th VENUS. The rhythmic drums and break-dancers worked their magic on the 900 gala guests from the beginning, and soon "increased the temperature" in the hall to boiling point. The excellent programme, performances and the MC helped to keep guests in an excellent humour throughout the evening. Sven Hurum, the managing director of Venus, then gave a moving and emotional talk on the occasion of the 10th anniversary, thanking sponsors, partners, exhibitors, trade visitors, media representatives, guests, artistes and consumers of the last 10 years for helping to make the Venus Trade Fair in Berlin such a success; without them, it would not have been possible. After a standing ovation lasting several minutes, the oversized birthday cake was cut. This was then followed by the very special highlight of the evening: Right Said Fred. From this moment on, hardly a single seat was being used for its intended purpose. Guests joined in with renditions of songs such as "I’m too sexy …" until they could sing no more. The after-show party followed at 2.00 am with "Party Republic", "Coyote Ugly" and special guest Michael Jordan, and went on until the early hours of morning. All in all, an event that really should not have been missed! (Photos: BAGANZ 2006)
