11.VENUS in Berlin
International Trade Fair
18 to 21 October 2007

Berlin, 01.11.2007

The 11th VENUS in Berlin from 18 to 21 October 2007 can record some very positive results. The organisers of the VENUS have yet again succeeded in further developing Berlin as the largest international platform and trade fair in our sector.

The mood among exhibitors and dealers was largely positive despite the disappointing business year incurred by so many. Exhibitors from all over the world displayed great motivation in presenting their products and the order books for trade do not appear to have suffered at all.

Visitor figures
Exactly 406 exhibitors from 36 countries were registered for the 11th VENUS and, despite non-participation by some major German production companies and the autumn break in Berlin and Brandenburg, the visitor figures for specialist trade and consumers were once again remarkable. With more than 150 new exhibitors, the VENUS this year records its greatest growth ever. A fact which is sure to have delighted those trade buyers travelling to the exhibition. With a slight decline of almost 2.5% over last year, the quality of the 5,432 trade visitors from all over the world rewarded exhibitors with outstanding sales figures and new business contacts. Likewise, 24,500 consumers ensured good business deals for many exhibitors rounding off the overall success of the 11th VENUS. Aisles were repeatedly crowded with the result that at some times, it was hard to even get through. More than 800 journalists gained credentials for this year’s event and thus ensured plenty of interesting and sexy stories.

VENUS-WEB-AREA
The VENUS WEB AREA was a firm component of the VENUS Fair once again this year, having reinvented itself after the disappointments and negative criticism of last year. The concept was given a comprehensive makeover in the wake of several discussions and rated a success by both online and offline users. The VENUS organisers have therefore done their homework and will continue to develop the WEB AREA in the future on the basis of these new experiences gleaned. One thing can be said for sure however: the online and offline sector will gradually merge over the next few years according to some renowned representatives among the 33 VENUS WEB AREA exhibitors.

Parties
This year saw more parties staged than ever before – whether for motivational reasons or as a way of thanking customers. Like every year, Bratwurst and beer were available for selected business partners at the ORION stand on Thursday, while Coolspot AG transformed ADAGIO into a new “Secret City” virtual world for Friday evening where it celebrated the extremely successful start of the new world of avatars. One particular highlight among the evening events was represented by the VISIT-X party in Berlin’s Amber Suite but the ultimate party with lots of stars and an extensive show programme was experienced by around 900 VIP guests at the 11th VENUS VIP party on Saturday in ADAGIO after the Fair closed. As usual, celebrations went on until the early hours of the morning.

eLINE and DAVID award-winners for 2007 announced
On the Thursday, the eLINE Awards were presented by Mediatainment Publishing Verlag (MPVG) in the presence of around 500 guests in Berlin’s Estrel Hotel. The 3-hour award show finale featured 66 winners from the areas of Toys & Stuff, Business, Online & TV, Video and Actors with the audience also including numerous press representatives from print, radio and TV. Like at the actual Trade Fair, the percentage of international companies, products and actors nominated has increased over 2005 and 2006 when MPVG also presented its awards. Accordingly, categories such as Best Film and Best Actress in Europe and the USA were included for the first time. This year’s winners were primarily chosen by representatives of German-speaking trade. The DAVIDs for the Gay segment were presented the following Friday during the Hustlaball where the annual winners received awards in 25 different categories.
